Renae has been practicing yoga for 10 years and first came to the practice as a way to steady her mind.
- I grew up in Brisbane and played physically demanding sport until my mid 20’s. I’d always seen yoga as gentle exercise that wasn’t ‘intense enough’ for the extreme yang lifestyle I was leading. It wasn’t until I moved to Melbourne in 2010 and was entering into a stressful job that I literally ran into a sign on the street advertising yoga. After my first class I was left with a sense of profound peace and a yearning for more. Having practiced at a number of studios across Melbourne it wasn’t until I started practicing at Yoke that I felt the desire to delve further into the teachings of yoga. I was curious about what I could learn and integrate into the way I approach my life. The wonderful Yoke family was the perfect place for me undertake my first 200hr teacher training in 2018. This ignited something in me and I developed an enthusiasm and passion for teaching and sharing yoga.
Renae has since gone on to study Yin with Bernie Clarke, Bhakti with Deborah Langley and Co, as well as further studies with Yoke and the Blissology collective.
“My own practice and classes are definitely slower and more contemplative then when I first came to yoga. I’m constantly interested in the sensations that are arising and how I feel in my body as I move and breathe and how can I create more ease in my practice. For me, yoga is an opportunity to feel freedom, to connect with myself, to breathe and to feel energy moving in my body.”
